KEMP & STRANG CHARITY FASHION EVENT

Every now and again it feels good to do something for others. In this case it was lending my services to a very good cause hosted by the well known Sydney Legal Firm Kemp & Strang. So many good companies sponsored the event such as WannanWine, Mac, Varese Shoes, Roses Only, Grappa Restorante & Bar just to name a few, by raising money, giving of gifts and prizes .

Here’s just a couple of pics from the fashion show.  I absolutely loved all the dresses designed by Leona Edmiston. Pierre Haddad did the all the models hair and makeup creating already beautiful young women into even more gorgeous beings! Being a mum of an 11 month old baby and who sits around in jeans or tracky pants, seeing this fashion show made me realise it’s time to update the wardrobe… I wish!!:)

SPW Studio Lighting Workshop – Guns, Beauty and Swords

A few years back, I attended classes at SPW (Sydney Photographic Workshop) which inspired me to take my photography passion to the next level. I’ve since returned there to do yet another workshop focused on studio lighting. As well as catching up with the people who run the day and to meet other people in the industry it such a great day to be involved and take interesting photographs I don’t normally get the chance to capture. It’s also different from shooting in natural light conditions. Just by adjusting the position of the light or changing the backdrop you can alter the mood of the shot completely which is why I also love studio shoots as it gives you a different way to think creatively. This workshop had two models. A tough looking guy and a gorgeous girl. Both looked fantastic, were heavily tattooed and really knew how to work well with the camera to make things even more interesting.

Now I’m the type of person who is quite scared of guns and swords etc and I could feel my heart beating so fast when I saw the guns, yet at the same time I knew it was going to be a great day to explore something different and see things from another point of view. I choose to photograph the girl first to ease into things and then when it was time to photograph the guy, I asked him to look angry at the camera and just mouth “Aaargh”. He said he could only do it if he actually yelled. So I said that’s ok, just yell. Well, he did and nearly scared the living day lights out of me. I wasn’t quite expecting him to be so loud! Neither did anyone else, it was great! I got the shot I was after and was happy with that.

The images below are very different and can be quite full on for some people (possibly some brides to be looking at this site!). It’s certainly different from the beauty of a wedding but it’s still very powerful in it’s own right and the main focus is on the lighting of the subjects in which it creates an even more powerful photograph, mood and effect.

Can’t wait for the next course. But I’m thinking of doing a workshop on landscapes just for something different again!:)

Amanda and Brendan’s Wedding

The day finally arrived for Amanda and Brendan. The ceremony took place in a beautiful, traditional church where the priest that married them was also the same priest who married Amanda’s mum and dad. So it added a beautiful, sentimental touch to the day.  The reception was a blast filled with non stop fun and laughter till the end. The food was delicious, music was great and meeting all the friends and family made it all the more fun. It was lovely to be a part of their day with people so friendly.

They are such a warm, happy and loving couple and I had such a good time. Thanks so much for the great day, it’s one I’ll remember for a long time.

Trash the Dress

When Sandra approached me and asked if I’ve heard of “trash the dress” you couldn’t wipe the smile off my face! Had I heard of it? Of course I had! I’ve been suggesting this to many brides but no one has actually taken part in this great challenge. But to be fair, neither did I when I had my chance. Looking back I wished I was a bit more adventurous and went ahead with it, as there’s no way I can fit into my dress now!!!

Naturally I was over the moon Sandra wanted to do this, and she had the right attitude. She knew she wasn’t likely to wear the dress again which is why she really wanted to do this. We went down to a little spot at one of my favorite Sydney beaches one afternoon and snapped away until the sun went down.

Both Sandra and Dave were open to everything. Climbing up rocks and jumping into the surf. Even getting smashed by the waves crashing around them! They loved it, I loved it! The water was so warm, especially near the rock pool area. Before I knew it, I was up to my waist in water snapping away.  Normally I’m frightened by blue bottles or worse!! But not that day. It went by so quickly, I completely lost track of time as we had so much fun. People on the beach kept coming up to Sandra and Dave congratulating them on their wedding, commenting on the great idea and they all asked if they still had the reception to go to! Jokingly we said ‘yes’, of course!!

So any bride-to-be reading this now, take a look at the photos below as the words ‘trash the dress’ doesn’t have to be as bad as it sounds. Sandra had her dress dry-cleaned and it was as good as new. She also made good use of a once-in-a-lifetime investment and got the most out of her beautiful (and expensive) dress, with gorgeous photos to always look back on.

Thanks Sandra and Dave for giving me the opportunity to shoot this, it was a great day.

I’d love to hear what image you like the best, please leave a comment below and let me know.
